Established as an extension of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP),

founded in 1909, the Martinsville Henry County NAACP #7089 has, across the decades, served a vital role in championing the rights of African Americans and other minority populations within Martinsville and Henry County. ​Through grassroots mobilization, educational initiatives, and strategic partnerships with local organizations, the branch has been instrumental in advancing the cause of civil rights, fostering equal opportunity, and challenging systemic injustice in the region. Significant milestones in the history of the branch include the orchestration of voter registration drives, advocacy for school integration, promotion of equitable employment practices, and the commemoration of landmark events in the ongoing struggle for civil rights. ​The unwavering dedication and leadership of its members have been central to shaping Martinsville and Henry County into an increasingly just and equitable community. The branch is dedicated to cultivating an inclusive environment that empowers every person to flourish, contribute meaningfully, and participate fully in the civic, economic, and cultural spheres of Martinsville and Henry County.
